New Year Campaign Activities

Post date: Jan 3, 2013 8:05:11 PM

Happy New Year and back to work.....so here is some information on key upcoming GlosVAIN campaign events and actions that you can take:

Fri 11th Jan - A Public Enquiry: "Mass Burn Incineration, not in Anyone's Backyard" - with Jonathon Porritt

Speakers include: Jonathon Porritt, a representative from GCC and John Beattie from SWARD (Safety in Waste and Rubbish Disposal). There will be a panel.

We hope that you will be able to come as it is important to get as many people as possible at this event.

The following is a poster giving further details, it would be much appreciated if you could circulate it.

Time: 6.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m, Venue: The Bethesda Church, Cheltenham.

E-Petition

There is now a government e-petition on-line to oppose the incinerator, set up by Plum Sykes. Please sign it as soon as possible (if you haven't done so already). It takes no time at all.

Here is the link: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/43257

After signing, please circulate the link to all of your family, friends and colleagues (and ask them to circulate it too). You can share directly on your Facebook page by clicking here.

Supporters of this e-petition can live anywhere in the UK because this proposed incinerator is of national interest, so even if you have family or friends in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can ask them to sign. The e-petition is asking for a call-in and, in addition, if 100,000 signatures are obtained, a debate in the House of Commons could be triggered. 100,000 signatures may sound a lot, but if each GlosVAIN member gets only 35 people to sign it, we will be c. 25% on the way to success.

The e-petition is also being supported by Gloucestershire campaign groups: www.glosfoe.org.uk (Glos. Friends of the Earth Network), www.glosain.org.uk (Gloucestershire against Incinerators) and SWARD.

GlosVAIN Presentation Roadshow

Our public presentations are back in operation again. Here are the January 2013 dates and venues that have been arranged so far:

14th January 2013 Leonard Stanley (Village Hall) starting at 7.30 p.m.

21st January 2013 Upton St. Leonards (Village Hall, Annex Room) starting at 7.30 p.m. Postponed

24th January 2013 Churchdown (GL3 Community Hub, GL3 1HX) starting at 7.00 p.m.

Helpers

Communication with the public is a key issue and we are still very short of helpers. Unbelievably many people still do not know about the issue.

If you can help please can you contact Jackie Groves, email: jmgg2@btinternet.com or myself (see below). If you have volunteered before but have not been contacted yet, please send a reminder. Remember: some extra exercise can help to counteract those mince pies!

Reminder

Have you sent in your objection letters to The Secretary of State and G.C.C. Planning Dept.? If not, guidelines on what to say and where to send the objections to can be found at www.glosvain.info/object

Again, HAPPY NEW YEAR.
