OSMC Demo 27 Jan 2012

Protestors, some as young as two, braved the winter cold on Friday 27th Jan to lobby on the steps of Shire Hall whilst the County Council’s Scrutiny Committee met. The committee convened to consider the Liberal Democrat “call-in” of a decision in December to select Urbaser Balfour Beatty as “preferred bidder” to build the council’s incinerator.

Unfortunately, as predicted, the "call-in" attempt was not successful and all challenges were rejected. Voting patterns on the County Council's "Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee" were as per the norm for such occasions and would seem to call into question for many the level of genuine impartial scrutiny at play.
